Jail Media: What type of things did they have to help pass the time? Where there workout rooms or a pool table or anything like that?
Ben Smith: There’s not really a workout room. The county jail up by Magic Mountain, they have pull-up bars and things of that nature, but no weights or anything like that. To stay in shape, you do your pushups and your sit-ups.
Jail Media: Did they have TVs?
Ben Smith: Every dorm has a TV. Every dorm consists of anywhere from 60 to 100 guys. Some have big screen TVs, even. There’s a rumor that when Robert Downey Jr. was locked up, he bought big screen TVs for the whole building.
Jail Media: How often in the LA County jail could you go out side?
Ben Smith: You can go out once a week for about an hour. It’s because they have so many inmates there, it’s tough to constantly send people out and watch out for them. There are a lot of gangs, especially in LA, so they’re really watching out for how much time they have to converse with other inmates.
